It’s a frustrating moment: you’re ready for a relaxing session, but your vape pen isn’t cooperating. Before you consider tossing it out, remember that most vape issues are simple fixes related to connectivity, battery life, or “clogs.”
Here is a comprehensive guide to getting your device back in working order.
If your pen seems “dead,” it’s usually a power or lock issue rather than a broken battery.
The 5-Click Rule: Most vape pens have a safety lock. Rapidly click the power button 5 times within two seconds to toggle it on or off.
Check the Charge: Plug it in. If the light doesn’t pulse or change colour, try a different micro-USB or USB-C cable.
Connection Cleanliness: Use a Q-tip with a tiny bit of rubbing alcohol to clean the “510 thread” (where the battery meets the cartridge). Buildup here blocks the electrical signal.
If the light glows when you inhale or press the button but nothing comes out, you likely have a connection or “dry” coil issue.
The “Paperclip” Trick: Sometimes the center pin in the battery gets pushed down too far. Use a toothpick to very gently pry the circular metal pin up a fraction of a millimeter.
Check the Cartridge: Is it screwed on too tight? Ironically, over-tightening can crush the connection. Back it off a quarter-turn and try again.
Prime the Coil: If it’s a new cartridge, take a few “dry pulls” (inhaling without pressing the power button) to help the oil settle into the heating element.
Clogs are the #1 most common issue with oil pens, especially in colder weather.
🚀 The Warm-Up: If the oil is too thick, hold the cartridge in your hands for a minute or use a hairdryer on a low setting for 10 seconds to thin the oil.
🌬️ Clear the Airway: Use a thin safety pin or toothpick to gently clear any residue from the mouthpiece.
Pre-Heat Mode: Does your pen have a “Pre-heat” setting? (Usually 2 clicks). Use this to melt stubborn clogs before you take a hit.
To prevent future issues, always store your vape pen upright. Storing it on its side or upside down leads to leaks and stubborn clogs in the mouthpiece. Keep it away from extreme heat (like a car dashboard) to prevent the oil from thinning and leaking out of the bottom.
NOTE: If having vapes delivered and left in your mailbox or outside for hours in extreme or extreme cold can result in damage your device(s)
